Sean Michael Kerner over at internetnews.com is reporting that BlueCoat is integrating the Packeteer traffic identification technology deeper into their existing ProxySG products. Not really news, more an update I guess as to what BlueCoat are doing with the technology they acquired earlier this year.
Anything they do to improve their products will make me happy as it will make up for killing off the fantastic iShared product that Packeteer had acquired via Tacit Networks. iShared was, and still is, my preferred WAFS solution; even though you can’t buy it any more. It was/is particularly effective at CIFS optimisation and I for one was disapointed when Blue Coat chose to terminate the product in favour of their own WAFS product.
The reporting the BlueCoat are integrating Packeteer products deeper into their own products, hopefully bodes well for existing Packeteer Packetshaper users. As it probably means that development is still ongoing for Packetshaper. And that in turn means improvements for users… hopefully.
