Amazon have announced/released CloudFront, which provides a content delivery network for data stored on S3. With “edge locations” in Amsterdam, Dublin, Frankfurt and London here in Europe it means that if you are serving files to “The City” you should be able to provide files as fast here as you can to the USA or Asia.
Of course being AWS, this is charged on usage not by monthly contract. So if you are not serving many files you are not getting charged much.
Doug Kaye and Phil Windley for example seem pretty impressed, with Phil describing it a “no brainer”. Given their backgrounds with IT Conversations I am inclinded to listen to their opinions on content delivery.
